Richard Edward Carlson, 91, of Alba, Texas, was a wonderful friend, husband, father, grandfather and
great-grandfather. He was born April 29, 1933, in Fairbury, Illinois, to Mary Ellen and Edward G. Carlson.
Richard left home at the age of 18 to join the United States Navy serving from 1951 to 1955.
After leaving his military career behind, he met, fell in love, and married his wife of 50 years, Faye
Carlson who precedes him in death. The couple enjoyed many things together and with their son,
Richard D. Whether it was fishing, traveling and being able to fulfill his dream to become a pilot of his
own plane.
Richards second love came by chance at church. Ruth also grew up in Illinois close to Fairbury. They had
some of the same friends, but never met each other until he saw a pretty lady with a pretty smile and
the same pretty white hair as his! They had a wonderful companionship full of love and laughter for over
10 years.
Richard left his loved ones behind suddenly after a brief illness on June 13, 2024, that left all of us
heartbroken. He was preceded in death by his wife Faye, stepdaughters Shirley Betterton, Eilleen
Stettler and granddaughter Cathleen Stettler.
Mourning their loss of him would be his companion Ruth Wedding of Alba; son Richard and wife Denise
Carlson of Alba; son-in-law Tom Stettler of San Antonio; and his pride a joy of grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.
