Obituary for Richard Wilson Clark

January 18, 1947 – May 25, 2025

Richard Wilson Clark, a devoted husband, loving Dad and Pop, respected attorney, and faithful servant to his community and church, passed away peacefully in his home on May 25, 2025, at the age of 78.

Born on January 18, 1947, in Lufkin, Texas, Richard was the beloved son of Edward Clark and Olive Elizabeth Powell. A bright and dedicated student, he graduated from Howard Payne College in 1969 and earned his law degree from Texas Tech University in 1974.

While attending college, Richard worked at Davis Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood, Texas, setting the tone for a life grounded in service and care for others. After becoming a licensed attorney, he began his legal career serving one year in Cochran County then 35 years in Yoakum County, where he served with distinction as a private attorney, the Yoakum County Attorney, and later the Yoakum County Criminal District Attorney.

Richard was an active member of his community. He held memberships in the Texas Bar Association, the Denver City Chamber of Commerce, and the Lions Club. His commitment to civic involvement was matched by his deep faith. He served as a deacon and member of First Baptist Church in Denver City for 30 years and was a current member of First Baptist Church of Lindale at the time of his passing.

A man of quick wit and gentle humor, Richard found joy in life’s simple pleasures—spending cherished time with his family, reading, and writing poetry. His words, both spoken and written, were thoughtful and often touched with grace and reflection.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-six years, Katherine “Kathy” Clark of Lindale; his son, Justin Clark of Butte, Montana, and grandsons, Finley and Nels; his daughter, Amy Blake of St. Jeannet, France; and his brother, Ed Clark and wife Kay of Cedar Hill, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Logan.

Richard’s life was a testament to integrity, compassion, and faith. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
