Robert L. Pendergrass, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 12, 2024, in a Tyler hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication. Born on July 7, 1940, in Altus, Oklahoma, to the late Jefferson Lee Pendergrass and Juanita Osburn Pendergrass, Robert's life was a testament to hard work and devotion.
Robert graduated high school in Fort Worth, Texas, and began his career with Mrs. Baird's Bakeries while attending high school. His professional journey took him to Frito-Lay, where he dedicated 32 years as a route salesman in Irving and Mabank, Texas, before retiring. His commitment to his work and his integrity earned him the respect and admiration of those who worked with him.
On December 10, 1960, Robert married Wanda Bonner at the Methodist church in Martha, Oklahoma, on a snowy day that Wanda fondly remembers. Their marriage of nearly 64 years was marked by deep love and partnership. Together, they shared a passion for gardening, RV trips, and cruises, creating countless cherished memories.
Robert's love for softball was evident through his service as a coach and umpire with the American Softball Association. His enthusiasm for the sport and his dedication to the young girls he coached and mentored were hallmarks of his character.
Mr. Pendergrass was preceded in death by his parents Jefferson and Juanita Pendergrass and daughter-in-law Lila Rose Nelson.
Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Wanda; their son Rickey Pendergrass and daughter Vickie Pendergrass; grandchildren Corey Pendergrass and wife Leanne, Chad Pendergrass and wife Amanda, Stacy, James, Brandy and Robert; 5 great-grandchildren Maverick, Parker, Collin Samuel, and Audrina Pendergrass who will carry forward his legacy. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service to celebrate Robert’s life will be held at the First Christian Church in Mineola on Thursday, August 22, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Robert’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and his memory will be a source of inspiration and joy for years to come.
