Roy Alvin Westbrook

Roy “Milton” Westbrook peacefully left our lives on February 12, 2014. He was born to W. Dee and Vera Westbrook on December 22, 1921 in Alba, TX. He graduated from Alba High School in 1940. In 1941 he entered the U.S. Navy and served on the destroyer U.S.S. Paul Jones during World War II. In 1948 he married Leta (Scalf) Westbrook and had a daughter, Roy Ann, and son Jim. They made their lives in Dallas for many years where Roy worked at the Dallas Naval Air Station until his retirement as Chief Petty Officer in 1963. After his retirement from the Navy, Roy worked in the banking and real estate industries. He could be found at any time on a tractor at his farm in Murchison or working in his garden. In 1997 he and Leta retired to Mineola where he spent the remaining years of his life. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Mineola. Roy’s family was his most cherished accomplishment. He welcomed three grandchildren and three great grandchildren into his heart over his lifetime.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents W. Dee and Vera Westbrook, brothers Jake and Glen Westbrook, twin sister Mildred Westbrook, and his son Jim Westbrook.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Leta Westbrook of Mineola, sister Bonnie Green of Bedford, daughter Roy Ann Miller and husband Wayne of Mineola, daughter- in- law, Lindee Westbrook of DeSoto, grandchildren Nancy Baird-Phonsnasinh and husband Gar of Mineola, Jack Baird and wife Jill of Rockwall, James Westbrook and wife Megan of Waxahachie, and great-grandchildren Makenzie Baird, Emily Phonsnasinh, and Hayley Westbrook. Roy had numerous nieces and nephews that touched his life throughout the years.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 15th from 6-8:00 p.m. at Beaty Funeral Home 5396 S. St. Hwy 37 in Mineola, TX. Funeral services will be on Sunday, February 16th at 2:00 p.m.
