Obituary for Russell Gene Reeves
February 15, 1964 - May 17, 2026
It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Russell Gene Reeves, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, believer, and friend, who left us peacefully on May 17, 2026, at the age of 62. Born in Amarillo, TX, and later finding his home in East Texas, Russell lived a life brimming with love, laughter, and generosity.
Russell was a longtime member of the Broad Street Church of Christ, where he shared his faith and kindness with many. He loved animals and enjoyed caring for them. Because of his love for God's creation, he spent many hours fishing, stargazing, and camping, always appreciating the intricacies of nature. A proud alumnus of Texas A&M University, he carried the Aggie spirit with him, cheering loudly with his family as he watched Aggie Football.
Russell had a big heart, whether it was for his family, his country, or a stranger he crossed paths with. He followed Jesus closely and dedicated time to sharing his faith with those overseas or simply next to him at Walmart. His humor is unforgettable; he could always bring a laugh with one of his jokes, pranks, or goofy faces.
Family was the heart of Russell's world. He is survived by his father Curtis Reeves and step-mother MaryAnn; his mother Maria Hindman and her husband Miles; his siblings Scott (and wife Elizabeth), Wayne, Jennifer (and husband Scot), Jami (and husband Andrew), and Ryan (and wife Candace).
Also, his wonderful children: J.C. (and wife Kerri), Danielle (and husband Chris), Noah, Luke (and wife Erica), Faith, Hope (and husband Bryson), Joy, Rena, Lyric, Lily, and Lucy.
Russell was especially proud of his six grandchildren: Theodor, Daisy, Maple, Fern, Roger, and Bruce, who brought endless joy and purpose to his life.
A celebration of Russell's life will take place on June 6, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Broad Street Church of Christ, where friends and family will gather to share stories, laughter, and fond memories of this incredible man. Following the service, Russell will be laid to rest in Mineola, TX, at 11:00 AM.
In honoring Russell's life, let us remember the laughter he brought, the love he shared, and the legacy of warmth he leaves behind. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers you can honor Russell by donating to the Broad Street Church of Christ's Ghana mission fund.
