Sam Avants

July 15, 1922 — February 17, 2009

Mr. Avants died Tuesday at his home in Quitman. He was born July 15, 1922 to the late Homer Lee and Anna Avant. He was born in Corn, OK and lived in Quitman for thirty-one years. He married Norma Jean Tinsley on June 27, 1947. Sam served his country during World War Two in the Phillipines as a soldier of the United States Army. He then worked as Maintenance Supervisor at Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, TX.

He is preceded in death by his loving parents and one sister, Lorene Williams.

He is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jean Avants of Quitman; two sons, Gary Avants and wife Lisa of Schertz, TX, Roger Avants and wife Denise of San Antonio, TX; one daughter, Barbara Eaton and husband Thomas, of Tyler, TX; three brothers, Velmer Avant of Turlock, CA, Floyd Avant of Altus, OK, and Lloyd Avant of Quitman, TX; one sister, Dorothy Bury of Dallas, TX; along with seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
