Sammy Lee Young

September 18, 1951 — June 5, 2024

Mr. Sammy L. Young, aged 72, of Quitman, Texas, passed away on June 5, 2024. He was born on September 18, 1951, in Meridian, Texas. Sammy's journey through life was one filled with hard work, laughter, and cherished moments with his beloved family.

Sammy found fulfillment in the open road as a truck driver and the serenity of the ranch as a dedicated rancher. When he wasn't behind the wheel or tending to the land, he could often be found casting his line into the water, indulging in his love for fishing, or perfecting his swing on the golf course. A true Texan at heart, Sammy's passion for sports extended to his unwavering support for the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers.

However, amidst all his passions, nothing brought Sammy more joy than his family. He was a devoted husband to Joyce Rumfield Young, loving son to mother Gracie Hambrick and a loving father to Michelle Sparks, Christi McFarlin, Stacie Young, Necole Hemsworth and her husband James. Sammy's playful spirit shone brightest when he was surrounded by his 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He had a special talent for teasing and joking with them, leaving behind cherished memories that will be forever treasured. Mr. Young is also survived by two stepbrothers Chris Hambrick and Ronnie Hambrick.

Sammy was preceded in death by his father, William Robert Young, brother, Lewis Young, stepfather, JB Hambrick, and granddaughter, Stephani Carrigan. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, his legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

May Sammy L. Young rest in eternal peace, his spirit forever riding the winds and roaming the open fields he so dearly loved.
