Sandra Lynn Hitt (Mosely)

July 30, 1945 — March 10, 2025

Sandra Lynn Hitt, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at age 79, after a lengthy illness. Born on July 30, 1945, in Dallas, Texas to the late Garson McBride Mosely and Mary Louise (Raymond) Mosely, Sandra has been a resident of Tyler, Texas since 1970.

Sandra’s life was defined by love, devotion, and service to others. She married the love of her life, James David Hitt on April 2, 1969, in Rockville, Maryland. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with cherished memories. Sandra was a dedicated mother of two daughters, Jennifer Hitt and Kimberly Dowdy. She was a proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Sandra earned her degree in Sociology at the University of North Texas in Denton Texas where she would meet her future husband, James. When the two moved to Tyler she worked at a Veterinary Clinic and then Mother Francis Hospital. James and Sandra had their first child, Jennifer, on December 13, 1975. Then in 1980 she became a homemaker and in 1983 Sandra and James welcomed their beautiful second daughter Kimberly Ann (Hitt) Dowdy. Sandra was an active member of Fifth Street Presbyterian Church until 2019, where she formed lasting bonds with her church family.

Sandra had a variety of interests that brought her joy. She was known for her love of Diet Dr. Pepper! She enjoyed cooking, sewing, typing and reading mysteries. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with James and their children. She enjoyed the holidays with all her family. In 1994 her husband James sadly passed away when she still had a lot of life left ahead of her. Three years later she lost her sight. She was determined to push through and keep going. She had very supportive lady friends from the church that would take her to eat every 3rd Thursday of the month and take her to Bible study. The church made sure to pick her up so she could attend on Sundays.

Sandra had a great love for her church family and her family at home. She enjoyed spending the night at her daughter Kim’s house and spending time with her grandson David Dowdy. She enjoyed helping raise her grandkids Brittany Pierce, Jonathon Clark, Je’Deja Beal, and Patience Beal. She loved them dearly and they truly loved and took care of her.

Sandra was so kind and compassionate. She never said a harsh word to anyone. She always smiled and enjoyed life. Her love for Christ was most admirable.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Garson McBride Mosely and Mary Louise Mosely; her husband James David Hitt and her brother; Garson Raymond Mosely. She is survived by her daughters Jennifer Hitt and Kimberly Dowdy; her sister Linda Marshall; her brother-n-law Lynn Hitt and his wife Kathy Hitt; Her granddaughter Brittany Pierce, and her husband Ka’Darrian Pierce who are parents to Sandra’s great grandchildren, Alexandria and Kristian Pierce; her grandson Jonathon Clark, granddaughters Je’Deja Beal and Patience Beal; Nephews Cody Hitt, Craig Marshall and Michael Marshall.
