Sarah Ellen “Sally” Anderson

12/28/45 – 9/9/23

Born in Ashville, NC to John and Wilma Smith, Sally joined her older sister Sue to complete the Smith family. The valedictorian of her Joplin high school, she was a pre-law major at the University of Arkansas when she met and married Gene Anderson on August 12, 1965. Together, they welcomed three children: Barry, Scott and Emily.

Known for her quick wit, prodigious vocabulary and kitchen prowess, Sally used her gifts to encourage others and serve God. Sally was the consummate hostess, though she desired no recognition. Whether serving a five-course meal, or serving VBS volunteers, she found joy in focusing on other people. In addition to her passion for serving, she delighted in celebrating the birth of Jesus with her abundant and meticulous Christmas décor, thus creating a lifetime of memories for friends and family. A committed wife, mother and friend, she will be missed. Her joy has been made complete as she is now healed and whole with her Savior.

Preceded in death by her parents, sister and son, Scott, she is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gene; son Barry; daughter Emily and husband Justin; and granddaughters Hannah and Lauren.

Graveside services for the immediate family were held Thursday, September 14, 2023 in Perryville, Texas.

The memorial service for friends and family to come remember Sally will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Bible Church located at 11306 Inwood Rd., Dallas, TX 75229. This is a casual and comfortable gathering to remember Sally; please dress however makes you comfortable.
