Shirley Holder

Shirley Ann Taylor Holder was born on May 29th, 1939, in Soper, Oklahoma. She passed peacefully from this life at the age of 86 on October 10, 2025.

Shirley met the love of her life, Billy T. Holder in Texas. The two quickly fell in love and married in January of 1963. They were happily married for 60 years. Bill and Shirley were a perfect team and everyone who knew them, loved them!. They began their life together in Tyler, Texas, and a career transfer sent them to Huntsville Alabama in 1992. They were longstanding members of the Whitesburg Baptist Church.

Throughout their marriage, they were avid Tournament Golfers and Bass Fisherman, with Shirley winning many individual competitions in the Ladies Divisions of both sports and notching several "Hole-in -One" on her scorecard. They enjoyed traveling having toured many spots all over the United States and Europe.

Leadership was one of Shirley's amazing traits. She was a professional secretary for Standard Oil/British Petroleum Company and retired in 1984 after 25 years of service. She won many awards and accolades during her years at BP. She was a prolific volunteer and lent her skills to many charitable organizations and philanthropic endeavors during her lifetime.

Shirley was a talented and accomplished Painter and Artist having produced many beautiful works, across multiple mediums, during her lifetime. She enjoyed the outdoors, where she loved spending her time maintaining her yard and beautiful flowerbeds.

Shirley and Billy didn't have children of their own, but their family legacy will continue on. They adopted a host of nieces and nephews including Kim Dennis, Susie & Gene Lawrence and their long-time neighbors, Mike and Ivy Alexander, and their two daughters, Iris Alexander and Emily Alexander, as part of their family. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Jesse Eugene and Elberta Susan Odem Taylor, her husband Billy, four brothers Ray Taylor, Jessie Taylor, Frank Taylor, and Waylon Taylor, and four sisters, Ruth Bohannon, Pauline Taylor, Sue Putz and Dama Stackhouse.

Shirley's family expresses their sincere gratitude to Grandview Garden's Staff, all of whom cared for her so well in the final chapter of her life. Additionally, the Family would like to thank Pastor Randy Evers for his spiritual support of Shirley and Billy.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to either the St. Jude Hospital in Memphis TN., or Texas Shrine's Hospital in Galveston, Texas.

Alabama Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 11:00 am at Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama

Texas Funeral services for Shirley will be held on Friday October 17, 2025, at 11:00 am at Beatty Funeral Home in Winnsboro Texas.

Family and friends will meet for both Services beforehand at 10:30 for a time of visitation.
