Shirley Thornton Blount Paulk, 76, of Lindale, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 in Tyler. She was born Sept. 14, 1936 in Hermitage, Arkansas to the late Luke and Marie Thornton.
She attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello. She was employed by Pepsi Cola Co. in Memphis TN before moving to Dallas in the late 1950s'. She worked many years as an administrative assistant at Tillinghast Inc. In 1966, she was married to John Fulton Blount Sr. After her retirement in 1991 the family moved to Hideaway Lake. Mr. Blount died in 2007. She was an active member of The Church of St. Dunstan in Mineola. She was a former member of the vestry of St. Dunstans and currently served as Directress of the Altar Guild. She was also active in the Hideaway Association and the Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband Glen D. Paulk; daughter, Laurel Marie Leyva of Tyler, a son Stephen Hutson Blount and wife Bethanye of Almeda CA; and granddaughter Erica Marie Leyva of Berkeley CA.; three brothers, Luke Thornton of West Palm Beach FL, Jim Thornton of Longview TX, John Thornton of Clarksville TN; three sisters, Nan Haug of Bella Vista AR, Ruth Worley of Piedmont MO, and Judy Thornton of Dallas.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 27 at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. Dunstan, Mineola with Rev.Thomas A. Pantle and Rev. A. Patterson Young officiating. A reception and visitation will follow the ceremony. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Northeast Texas Child Advocacy Center, Inc., P.O. Box 44, Winnsboro TX 75494.
