Vickie Lynne (Smith) Swann
June 19, 1954 - November 21, 2024
Vickie (Smith) Swann was born June 19, 1954 in Fort Worth, Texas. She passed away peacefully at home
on Thursday, November 21 in the presence of her husband, son and a few friends. She was the first and
only child of Donald Smith and Jackie Branson. Both parents are deceased, as is one granddaughter Katy
Shannon Swann. Vickie is survived by her husband, Reggie, two sons, Dustin Haley and James Richard
Swann, one grandson, Jaxon Buckley, a granddaughter, Meagan Lee and two great grandchildren, Kylah
Haley and Jhordyn Lee. A half sister, Lisa lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
After her parents died Vickie lived with her uncle Hoyce Smith and family and attended Pittsburg High
School. Soon she met her first husband, Malcom Haley. Their only son, Dustin lives in the Winnsboro
area. Vickie worked numerous jobs as a single parent after she and Malcom divorced, including waiting
tables and working as a nurses' aide in rest homes.
Vickie met James (Reggie) Swann in 1975. Eventually they moved to Mazatlan, Mexico where they were
involved in time share sales. She was a productive salesperson adored by all who knew and worked with
her. The couple did three more projects on the Pacific coast in Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco
during subsequent years.
Vickie and Reggie were married October 11, 1981 in Las Vegas, Nevada while on vacation from
Mazatlan. They continued in sales and marketing until they returned home to Texas in 1988. They
bought land, established a farm and embraced life anew in East Texas with family and friends.
Vickie coached aerobics including water aerobics in the Wood County area. She managed a fitness
center in Quitman for a time and soon joined Craig Deaton at Winnsboro Fitness as a manager and
personal trainer for several years. Fitness and personal health had always been important to her.
Vickie enjoyed working with animals, exercise, visiting with family and friends and singing in church. She
took voice and classical guitar courses at Northeast Texas Community College. She did love music.
Vickie studied kenpo karate at the Donald Lawson dojo for 6 years. She progressed from belt to belt,
practicing katas and competing with the karate club locally, regionally and state wide. During those
years she won a room full of trophies. Vickie received her black belt after six years of wonderful
experiences with Mr. Lawson.
Many will remember her from her recent years working as a massage therapist at the Copperleaf Day
Spa and Salon. She joyfully provided massage and prayer for her clients. She loved and enjoyed people.
Cindy Gillespie, one of her clients, spent many hours with her each week during the last 3 months of her
life at home. Vickie always smiled when Cindy arrived.
Vickie Swann passed away quietly at home as the result of Alzheimer's Dementia. She is already greatly
missed. But, her struggles and her confusion are over. Praise God.
