On September 15th, 2021, Virginia Santiago Cordero, at the age of 76, left this earth while surrounded by her loved ones.
She was given as a gift from God to Crescencio Cordero and Sofia Molina on July 30th, 1945 in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. From that moment, she went on to live a beautiful life that included marrying Juan Santiago Madariaga and giving life to 8 gorgeous children that had the privilege of calling her “Mom.” Her children - Gelacio Santiago, Monica Santiago, Juanita Melo, Maria Eugenia Santiago, Josefina Santiago, Monica Rosa Melo, Mary Santiago, and Yolanda Santiago - learned how to be kind, loving, and caring people from their mother who exemplified these traits every day of her life.
In 1993, Virginia Santiago and various members of her family made the trek over to the United States and settled in Mineola, Texas. Here, Virginia watched her family blossom and spread their roots all across the United States. However, no matter how far everyone traveled, the entire family knew that the heartbeat of this family would forever and always be Virginia Santiago. If anyone were to walk into her home, one might find her doing the various things that she loved like cooking, taking care of her plants, watching Walker Texas Ranger and Power Rangers, or playing Loteria. She would always welcome everyone into her house with a loving smile and delicious food that you could not help but eat. Her family referred to her as “Mi Viejita,” “La Vicki,” “Abuelita,” “Mi Guelita,” “Mami,” and “Gigi,” and she in turn had a special nickname for everyone that they will forever treasure.
Virginia is now joining her husband and parents in heaven. She is survived by her children - Gelacio, Monica, Juanita, Maria Eugenia, Josefina, Rosita, Mary and Yolanda. She is also leaving behind a beautiful legacy with her grandchildren - Victor, Laura, Nataly, Cesar, Luis, Brandon, Stacy, Eddie, Kyle, Marco, Carlos, Michelle, Xochitl, Alexia, Cici, Joshua, Ethan, Sunshine, Elias, Samuel, Rita, Celeste, Javier, Irene, and Omar. Her great grandchildren - Noah, Khloe, Ava, Ali, Issac, David, Jonathan, Daisy, Giovanni, Yaretzy, Jatzyri, and Xavier - will also carry on her legacy.
