Wade Charles Small, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated public servant, passed away on September 4, 2025, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 83. He was born on August 6, 1942, in Dexter, Michigan, and grew up in the Bronx, New York City.
Wade proudly served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Enterprise from 1961 until his honorable discharge in 1964. Following his military service, he embarked on a lifelong career in law enforcement, earning an Associate Degree in Police Science from El Centro College in Dallas. He worked for the Dallas Police Department's North West Division where he dedicated himself to the safety and well-being of his community until his retirement in 1995. While working for the police department, he also worked part-time for Zoecon Chemical Corporation, in their farmers branch,specializing in animal products.
In 1968, Wade married Linda Dianne Bradford in Irving, Texas, and they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary just months before his passing. He is survived by his loving wife Dianne; daughter Denise Jeffers; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Cortney Small; grandchildren Sara and Logan Small; sister Lois Penny; and niece Dawn Cepica of Lubbock, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews across five states.
Wade enjoyed a rich and fulfilling life, finding joy in fishing, riding his Kubota tracker, and indulging his passion for music. He loved watching the sunrise with his morning coffee and cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, whom he adored. He was also a member of several civic and fraternal organizations, including the Mineola American Legion, Ogburn Volunteer Fire Department, and the Dallas Police Association.
Wade was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Florence Small, as well as his sisters Marilyn Small and Roberta Gentile, and brother-in-law Frank Penny.
A memorial service to honor Wade's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, September 27th at 11:00a.m. at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Tx. The family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating the remarkable life of Wade Charles Small, whose warmth and generosity will be profoundly missed. Following the service, his remains will be interred in a private ceremony. His final wishes were carried out, with cremation taking place on September 15, 2025, with arrangements facilitated by Beaty Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Wade's memory to the local American Legion or a charity of your choosing.
Wade's enduring spirit and unwavering commitment to family and community will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on all who knew him.
