Wanda Mae Schmelz

Mrs. Wanda Mae Schmelz, age 93 of Winnsboro, formerly of Hot Springs, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 26th, 2016 in Yantis. Wanda Mae Schmelz, better known as "Fritzie" was born on April 3, 1923 in Winkle, Illinois to the late Anthony Rainey and Nellie Hamilton Rainey. Most of her childhood was spent in Tilden, Illinois. She married her husband of 66 years, Norbert, "Bert" Schmelz in 1943. Together they had a boy and three girls, son, Richard Schmelz and wife Artie of Yantis; daughters, Peggy Rasch and husband Robert of Orlando, FL., Cindy Gruenbaum and husband Jim of Charleston, SC., Becky Glenn and husband Keith of Denver, CO.; from which came 11 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren plus one on the way! Fritzie was a stay at home mom who spent a lot of her time involved in her church and the children's activities, that she loved Jesus and His mother Mary so much. After retirement, she and Bert moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas. In January 2016, she moved to Autumn Wind assisted living in Winnsboro, Tx to be close to her son at Lake Fork. Some things Fritzie has enjoyed over the years are sewing, playing bridge, reading and had such a passion for the game of golf, which she played until she was 90! Golfing kept her busy for 45 years! She was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband of 66 years, Mr. Norbert Schmelz in 2009 and grandson, Eric Rasch. A Rosary will be held on Thursday, May 5th at 5:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro, Visitation will follow from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 6th, 2016 at St. Ann's Catholic Church 101 W. FM 515 Winnsboro, TX 75494 at 10:00 am, Father Mani Mathai conducting. Private interment will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in Sherwood, Arkansas on Monday, May 9th, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Winnsboro, 1010 W FM 515, Winnsboro, TX 75494.
