Waymon Woodrow Wilson, of Mineola, Texas departed this life on November 21, 2014 in Tyler, Texas after suffering a brief illness. He was born in Paradise, Texas on April 9, 1915 to Horace and Lydia Wilson. He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Bessie Rae; his son Douglas Wilson and wife Bonnie of Spring, Texas; his son Bob Wilson of Mineola; his daughter Rae Beth Shockey and husband Roy of Keller, Texas; his brother Bill Wilson and wife Paula of Euless, Texas; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wilson was a high school football coach and math teacher for 22 years and a school administrator for 14 years before retiring from the Dallas Independent School District in 1976. He was an avid fisherman and loved to tour and camp in their motor home. He and his wife traveled extensively in Mexico, the lower 48 states, Canada, and Alaska. For 12 years, he volunteered with the Texas Baptist Men building churches all over the state. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mineola, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, and the Retired Teachers Association.
