In Loving Memory of Wayne Roberts
Wayne Roberts passed away peacefully in his home on March 4, 2025, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 15, 1949, in Grand Saline, Texas, to Artis and Lillie Mae (Williams) Roberts, Wayne’s life was nothing short of adventurous. His family moved to Irving, Texas, where Wayne graduated as part of the first class from MacArthur High School in 1968. Wayne married the love of his life, Mary Anne “Sue” Mason, on January 31, 1976, and together, they created a family filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Wayne served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. In 1969, he was stationed aboard the USS Hornet, the ship that welcomed home the astronauts from Apollo 11, marking one of the most historic moments in space exploration. After his service, he developed a successful power-washing business that became the largest in the state of Texas at one time. Wayne's dedication and hard work earned him a reputation as a trusted name in the industry.
Wayne’s deep faith was a cornerstone of his life. While he didn't always live perfectly, his belief in redemption and second chances was unwavering. As a minister, he shared his faith from the pulpit and over the radio airwaves, offering words of encouragement to those in need—especially to those struggling with addiction. His heart was always open to helping others, and his impact on many lives will never be forgotten.
Known for his infectious sense of humor, Wayne had a knack for bringing joy to any room. Whether it was with a well-timed joke, a funny story, or his famous cut-off shorts, Wayne’s presence was always a source of light and laughter. His positive energy was contagious, and he had a special gift for making everyone around him feel at ease.
A passionate sports fan, Wayne found great joy in cheering on the University of Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. However, nothing brought him more happiness than coaching and watching his children and grandchildren play sports. Whether on the sidelines guiding the plays or in the stands cheering them on, he was their biggest supporter. He loved being involved in their athletic journeys, celebrating every victory, and teaching valuable lessons in perseverance, teamwork, and dedication.
Wayne also had a passion for NASCAR. He was an enthusiastic fan who didn’t just watch the races—he lived them. On race days, you could often find Wayne tailgating at Texas Motor Speedway, grilling up food, enjoying the company of friends and family, and cheering on his favorite drivers. He loved the excitement and thrill of the races, and tailgating at the track was one of his favorite ways to spend the day.
In his final months, Wayne found peace and comfort in one of his favorite places, surrounded by some of his favorite people—his youngest daughter, son-in-law, and family. He spent his days partaking in frequent golf cart rides around the lake, enjoying the sunrises and sunsets, boating, and fishing. His last months were filled with tranquility and joy, making cherished memories in the place he loved the most. And let’s not forget his recent obsession with fruitcake. Wayne couldn’t get enough of it. His son-in-law became his daily fruitcake delivery driver—bringing him the sweet treat he adored almost every single day.
Wayne’s love for his family was boundless. A proud and loving grandfather, he was actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His legacy will live on in them—in their laughter, in the lessons he imparted, and in the love he shared with all of them.
Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Anne “Sue” Roberts; his father, Artis; his mother, Lillie Mae, and her husband, Cliff, who raised him as his own; and his brother, Randy Roberts. He is survived by his children Paula and husband Bobby, J and wife Keri, Daniel, and Mandy and husband Nathan; his cherished grandchildren Zach, Matthew, Lindsey, Amber, Kalyn, Zane, Chelsie, Christian, Andrew, Jonathan, Kylie, Breana, James Wayne, Abigail, Katie, and last, but definitely not least, Cash; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife and lifelong friend, Jeri Ann, his loving sister-in-law, Heidi, nieces Jamie and Lacie and their families, and many other relatives.
Wayne’s kindness, faith, and dedication to serving others will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy of love, laughter, and service will live on in the hearts of his family and all the lives he touched.
Rest easy, Wayne. We’re sure you’re up there cracking a joke, wearing those cut-off shorts with pride, and probably enjoying all the fruitcake your heart desires while watching NASCAR at full speed.
