Mr. William "Homer" Browning, age 92 of Winnsboro, passed away Friday, February 2, 2007 at his home. Homer was born on November 17, 1914 to the late Amos and Babe Highnote Browning in the Shady Grove Community. He married Ms. Janie B. Woodard on October 14, 1939. He was a farmer and dairyman, elder of the Pine Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 69 years, song leader there for 77 years. He was awarded the The Texas Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1966, in 1956 was one of the first in the area to plant coastal bermuda grass, he served on the Hopkins County Soil Conservation Board for 20 years, he served on the Pickton School Board for 13 years, and the Peoples National Bank Board of Directors. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters, one infant son, William Don Browning, and one infant granddaughter, Christie Ann Browning. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Janie Woodard Browning of Winnsboro; two sons and daughters-in-law, Neuman and Pat Browning of Winnsboro, Lonnie and Elvira Browning of Canton; two sisters, Mable Tinney of Sulphur Springs, Lola and James Powell of Groves; one brother-in-law, James Gunn of Quitman; four grandchildren, Stan Browning and wife Michelle, Brad Browning and wife Sandy, Tonya Browning, Lisa Browning; six great-grandchildren, Dallas Browning, Lauren Browning, David Stephens, Jason Stephens, Nickolas Browning, and Isabel Browning.
