William Nathaniel Grant, son, brother, grandson and a Son of the Republic died on in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 23, 2020. Will was thirty nine years old. He had a life long struggle with a bipolar/schizophrenia disorder. He struggled continuously from puberty until his death to overcome this affliction. MILITARY Will graduated from Winfrey Academy at the age of 17. He then applied for and was accepted into the US Marine Corps. His primary job assignments included infantry rifleman, artillery forward observer and instructor in the art of hand to hand combat. As an infantry trainee, he qualified as an “Expert” with the M16. As a forward observer, he directed fire missions originating from 105 through 175 howitzers, as well as, 8 inch Navy ship mounted cannons. He received numerous commendations and awards for his competency and dedication to the US Marine Corps values EDUCATION Upon completion of his military, Will earned several post high school degrees and apprenticeships. He completed a research project for the National Science Foundation and published his findings. He contributed one summer to a Gulf Water Restoration Project in Port Aransas, Texas, diving in and around the port, removing trash and debris. Attending Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater, Texas, he qualified and became eligible to install and repair electrical wind turbines. He was inducted into the PHI THETA KAPPA Honor Society at Eastfield College in Dallas, TX as he earned an Associate Degree in Biology. After completing his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas he began training as a union electrician in Dallas. EMPLOYMENT Subsequent to completing his second year of electricians’ apprenticeship, he was disabled by the Veterans Administration. The increasing burden of his mental disorder had gradually displaced the normal mechanisms that governed his emotional and intellectual processes. His valiant struggle ended on August 23, 2020. AVOCATION An accomplished musician, Will accompanied his sister on promotional tours as she performed live on local radio stations. He was a member of the bands Timeless Texans and the Stingers. Band mates included James Anderson, Larry White, Bobby Hibbitts, Phil Looney and Paul White. Family Will was survived by his sister, mother and father: B’Ann Crooks Beletta Grant Eddie Grant And Paternal Grandmother: Marjory L.
