Winston Leroy Davis, 82, of Mineola, Texas peacefully passed away on August 11th, 2025, after a brief illness in the hospital. He was born September 15th,1942 in Big Sandy, TX. to Winston W. and Estellene Davis of Big Sandy, Tx. Leroy was a graduate of Big Sandy High School in Big Sandy, Tx. and a graduate of East Texas University, Commerce, Tx. He married Brenda Sue Davis on February 16th, 1969.
Leroy lived a fulfilling life as a husband, father, brother, son, grandfather, and friend. He was a Texas History and Science teacher most of his career. Leroy loved the Texas “Friday Night Lights”. He coached different grade levels, both middle and high-school football for many East Texas school districts including Mineola, Grand Saline, Rains-Emory, Mt. Vernon, Whitehouse, Overton and Quitman.
His second love of life was buying and selling antiques with Brenda. He was known as a long-time vendor of Canton Trades Day. He is one of the few who has sold there for over 45 years. He was a collector of many different things including East Texas pottery, vintage fishing lures and rods, and Coleman lanterns.
He was so very proud of his children and grandchildren. Leroy will always be remembered for his stories he would tell about the past. He treated everyone with kindness and respect. His presence will be missed by all who knew him.
Leroy is survived by his two children, daughter: Jana Davis Elliott and husband John of Caddo Mills, TX. son: Bryan Eric Davis of Mineola, Texas; grandson: Grant Freeman of San Diego, CA. granddaughter: Lauren Freeman of Rockwall, Tx. He also has many nieces and nephews. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents: Winston and Estellene Davis of Big Sandy, TX. His wife: Brenda Sue Davis, and his brothers: Harley Davis and George Thomas Davis.
Visitation with family will be from 10:00-11:00 on August 16th, 2025, at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola, Tx. After visitation, friends are invited to join the family for the graveside services at Hoover Cemetery, Big Sandy, Tx. where we will lay Leroy to rest.
